Clematis quickly covers fences, trellises and walls in a sea of large, vibrant colorful flowers. Prolific blooms last all summer.

Celtic Skies: Unique bright lavender color on double blooms, has second flush of bloom in late summer to early fall! First flush of blooms are borne on previous year's growth and are large fluffy double blooms while the blooms later in the season are mostly single blooms with the same striking lavender hue.

Foliage Type:   Opposite compound dark green in spring and summer, yellow in fall. Leaflets lanceolate to ovate 1-2" long. Bronze colored when young.
 
Flower Form:   Double ring of sepals 3"-4".
 
Flower Color:   Often lilac-red to lilac-blue when young. Later turning deep violet-blue outer petals with central cluster of smaller, pale blue petals.
 
Flowering Date:   Late spring to early summer and again in late summer
 
Planting Requirements:   Prefers a situation where tops are in the sun and roots are shaded either by low plants or a mulch to keep soil moist and cool.
 
Soil Requirements:   Humus rich, well-drained, alkaline soil.
 
Growth Rate:   Slow to medium
 
Unique Characteristics:   Abundant, double violet-blue blossoms, with a compact growth habit. Tolerates full sun but does best in light shade. Easily clambers over trellises, decorative vine supports or fences. Blooms on old and new wood giving a full summer of possible color.
 
Pruning:   Flowers on last year's wood and new wood.
 
Time of Pruning:   Only after blossoming prune lightly and not too frequently.
 
Additional Information:   Climb by attaching leaf stalks about the means of support.
