Foliage Type:   Medium green simple palmate to pinnate leaves arranged alternately and opposite on the stems.
 
Flower Form:   6-8" large double blooms followed by single blooms later in the season.
 
Flower Color:   Violet blue.
 
Flowering Date:   Late spring to early summer and again in late summer to early fall.
 
Planting Requirements:   Root zone needs shade. Mulch to keep root systems cool and moist - their heads in the sun and their feet in the shade.
 
Soil Requirements:   Rich, well drained soil with a pH close to neutral.
 
Growth Rate:   Moderate to fast.
 
Unique Characteristics:   Unique bright lavender color on double blooms, has second flush of bloom in late summer to early fall. First flush of blooms are borne on previous year's growth and are large fluffy double blooms while the blooms later in the season are mostly single blooms with the same striking lavender hue. Excellent for growing over fences, walls, arbors or trellises.
 
Pruning:   Light pruning in early spring or after flowering.
 
Time of Pruning:   Early spring pruning will sacrifice blooms but may be necessary.
 
Additional Information:   Patens group - large flowered hybrids. Introduced by W. Pennell of the United Kingdom in 1959.
